Man who died in Knowle house fire named as inquest opens into death

An inquest has been opened into the death of a man who perished in an unexplained house fire in Bristol.

Martin Hill was found in bed after the blaze at his home in Holst Gardens, Knowle on March 24.

Firefighters from Bedminster and Temple were called to the fire at around 5.30pm and battled it using hose reel jets while a search of the property was carried out.

Mr Hill, 50, was pulled from the property but sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Avon and Somerset Police also attended the incident.

An inquest opening at Avon Coroner’s Court on Thursday (May 26) heard that Mr Hill was housebound and cared for by his mother and ex-partner.

He suffered from cirrhosis and had an amputated leg.

The provisional cause of death was given as 1a) unascertained.

Senior coroner for Avon, Maria Voisin, adjourned the full inquest into Mr Hill’s death for August 16 at Avon Coroner’s Court.
