A woman has been banned from driving for 18 months after causing a serious crash which left a scooter driver in hospital with serious injuries.

Sophie Wilson, 36, was at the wheel of a grey Vauxhall Astra car when it hit a red Honda PCX 125cc scooter in Court Road in Oldland Common on December 29.

The serious crash led to the closure of the road for several hours while the scooter rider was rushed to hospital with injuries initially described as potentially life-threatening.

Wilson, of West Street in Oldland Common, was arrested at the scene and later pleaded guilty to drink driving and causing serious injury by careless/inconsiderate driving.

Appearing at Bristol Magistrates Court last week, Wilson was banned from driving for 18 months. She was also given a community order which included receiving mental health treatment for nine months, and taking part in rehabilitation activities for 15 days.
