Bristol murder investigation: What happened to man in Bloomfield Road area of Brislington and how did he die?

A murder investigation has been launched by Avon and Somerset Police after a man died following an incident in the Brislington area of Bristol

Chief Inspector, Mike Buck, described what happened as “shocking and violent”.

Police launched a murder investigation after a man was fatally injured during disorder in Bloomfield Road in the Brislington area of Bristol shortly after 10pm on Tuesday.

The man was discovered with serious head injuries in Runnymead Avenue and despite receiving emergency first aid, he died at the scene.

Avon and Somerset Police said at least six other men suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Some of the men were transported to hospital and some self-attended.

Police believe the incident involved several people who arrived at the scene in vehicles.

One of the vehicles was abandoned and police are now carrying out a forensic examination.

The A4 inbound between Water Lane and Kensington Park in Bristol remains closed due to the incident and the ongoing investigation.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area at this time.

Yes. In total, five men have been arrested in connection with what happened - all of these men have been arrested on suspicon of murder.

What has Avon and Somerset Police said about the incident?

Chief Inspector Mike Buck made a direct appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed the incident to contact Avon and Somerset Police.

“This is a shocking and violent act which happened in residential streets in Brislington and a comprehensive police investigation will now be carried out with the aim of identifying all those responsible.

“We know this will be of great concern to those living in the area and we’d like to reassure the public although we’re in the early stages of an investigation, we’re currently treating this as an incident involving people known to each other. We don’t believe there is any ongoing risk to the wider public.

“One man has tragically lost his life and we’ll be prioritising informing his next of kin and giving them the care and support they need at this desperately sad time.

“This offending is likely to have been witnessed by people in the area and we would urge anyone with information which would assist with our enquiries to come forward now – especially if they have any dash cam footage or video doorbell/private CCTV footage.

“We’ll be stepping up patrols in the area over the coming days to reassure the local community, so our message to any residents who have concerns is please stop an officer and speak to them, or contact your local Neighbourhood Policing team.”
