A pair of Cher superfans had their dreams come true after getting engaged on stage at the touring Cher show last week.

Matt Still, 32, spent months working secretly with the show’s cast in order to pull off the fabulous proposal to his fiancée, Reece Crow, 29.

The couple, who are both theatre performers for a living, are now hoping they can get the real deal at their nuptials, which they hope will be in three years' time. Matt, from Taunton, Somerset, said: “Proposing has always been in the back of my mind, and it was no big shock to people because we do absolutely everything together.

“Reece is not a traditional person, and has always wanted a flashmob when I propose - so I wanted to do something big and fun but also catch him off guard with something he wasn’t expecting. He’s a big Cher fan, and when I saw the Cher show was coming to Bristol at the end of last summer, I jumped at the opportunity.

“I started working with the people from the Cher show in October, and they were amazing - we made up an entire fake competition so Reece thought we were just getting like a backstage tour, it was a complete surprise.”

Thinking he had won a competition for a meet-and-greet, Reece was led backstage by staff at the Hippodrome, Bristol with his partner Matt. The couple, who have been together for seven years, were then brought on stage to have their special moment in front of hundreds of audience members.

Reece, also from Taunton, Somerset, said: “I had absolutely no clue at all. I’ve won small competitions like that before so I didn’t think anything of it, and our friend was with us too so that threw me off.

“When they did the announcement for us to go onstage I thought we were going to get a selfie under the lights and everything, but then I saw Matt with the microphone and thought oh my god it’s happening.”

Amidst the chaos, Matt dropped the ring at first, but soon recovered and got a yes from Reece. The couple hope to tie the knot in around three years, and Reece is already plotting ways they can get the international superstar herself to their wedding.

Reece said: “When Matt dropped the ring it added to the moment - he’s very clumsy and is always dropping stuff so I thought ‘aww this is the man I’m going to spend the rest of my life with.’

“There was so much excitement and it’s been overwhelming since. I’d love Cher to come to the wedding, I’m working on it. Or even just a video message would be amazing - I’d definitely save the money I’d love to get her there.”
