Canford Lane: Two people, in 70s, killed after car hits pedestrian in Bristol

Two people aged in their 70s have died in a crash in Bristol. The incident happened in Canford Lane in Westbury-on-Trym on Monday (April 17) at 2.50pm.
It involved a car hitting a pedestrian. Avon and Somerset Police have now said that the pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a woman in the vehicle, also in her 70s, died later in hospital.

Hide AdThe road, which takes motorists from the Westbury-on-Trym toward Sea Mills, was closed for several hours after the crash.
A spokesperson for the police force said: “Our thoughts are with the families [of the victims] at this time, and they are being supported by a specially-trained family liaison officer.”
The force has also launched an appeal for anyone who saw the crash to get in contact. The spokesperson said: “If you were in the Canford Lane area and saw the incident, or have relevant footage, please contact 101 and quote reference 5223088511.”
The crash came a day before a person died in a three-vehicle collision near to Bristol Airport yesterday morning. Police are also appealing for witnesses from that fatal collision on the A38 near the Airport Tavern.
