Firefighters have been called to battle a fire which had broken out on a bus on the approach to Temple Meads during this morning’s commute (January 17).

A video taken by former Lib Dem councillor Alex Hartley appears to show flames flickering from the window of a number 73 CityLines bus, linking Temple Meads with Cribbs Causeway, shortly before 10am. Black smoke is seen in the video to be billowing as cars maneuver around the vehicle on Temple Gate - a busy passage leading to and from both Temple Meads Station and Cabot Circus.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews from Temple were called at 10:05 to reports of a bus on fire on the approach to Bristol Temple Meads. On arrival, firefighters found a double-decker bus well alight and used two 45mm jets to tackle the blaze. Two firefighters wore breathing apparatus for safety. The fire is now extinguished and crews remain at the scene to ensure its safety.”

The service also confirmed that there were no casualties taken from the incident.
