A man in his 20s has been arrested under suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to report an accident after a collision between a car and a double-decker bus forced the bus off the road, crashing into a home.

On December 15, at around 10pm, it is believed a VW Golf collided with a 75 bus on Highridge Road, Bishopsworth. As a result, the bus slammed into the front of Hayden and Kay Rich’s home while they were in the lounge watching television and their son Joshua was in his bedroom upstairs. The driver of the VW Golf fled the scene on foot before officers arrived, sparking an appeal to locate them. Avon and Somerset Police have now confirmed that a man in his 20s has since been arrested. Investigations are ongoing.

The bus made impact with the exterior wall of the Rich family’s kitchen. They were all checked over by paramedics, who also tended to the bus driver for minor cuts and a female passenger was later taken to the hospital - though the injury was not life-threatening. The house has been fenced off as repair works are carried out on the building.
