The demonstration was organised by student groups including Bristol Socialist Worker Student Society and Friends of Palestine, with support from others.

Speakers at the event included members of the groups, as well as university staff representatives from the Unison and UCU trade unions, and speakers from Stop the War and Just Stop Oil.

The group held up posters that said ‘Freedom for Palestine’ as they marched through the city chanting ‘Free, Free Palestine’, bringing traffic to a temporary standstill.

“I think it’s appalling that our leaders and press are unashamedly standing on the side of the Israeli state when there’s thousands being bombed and murdered, there’s over a million people displaced in Gaza.”

The fourth-year engineering student also directed criticism towards the university’s approach to the tensions in Israel and Gaza.

Bristol University has been approached for comment.
