Officers attended Ilminster Avenue in Knowle West at around 11.20pm yesterday (Saturday, January 27) where two boys, aged 15 and 16, had been attacked by a number of people who made off from the scene in a car.

The victims sustained stab wounds and were taken to two hospitals – Southmead Hospital and Bristol Royal Hospital for Children – by ambulance, where they sadly died in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, January 28).

An investigation into the incident is being led by the police's Major Crime Investigation Team.

Two arrests have already been made – a 44-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy. They remain in police custody. A vehicle has also been seized.

Supt Mark Runacres, the police commander in charge of Bristol, says that to provide reassurance to the community, the neighbourhood policing team will be carrying out increased patrols in the area.

He has also confirmed that police are looking for further suspects and has urged passengers on a number 70 bus travelling through the area around 11.20pm on Saturday (January 27) to contact police.

He said: “Although it’s not believed people involved were on the bus we’re keen to talk to people who were on the bus to see if they saw anybody in the vicinity that could help us with our enquiries.

“There are further suspects being sought amongst the group we believe were responsible. There are certainly other suspects involved beyond the two who were arrested so far.

“We’ve had good support so far from CCTV and witness accounts and I just urge people to continue giving us that information. That’s what will be key to identifying and bringing the people involved to justice.”
