A Bristol shopping centre’s cinema is set to reopen under a new operator after its closure a year ago.

Odeon are taking over the running of the 14-screen facility within Cabot Circus, the shopping centre’s owners Hammerson have announced.

The news comes after BristolWorld reported on the ‘devasting’ closure of the cinema under previous operator Showcase last November.

Odeon already runs a cinema on Union Street in Broadmead.

Hammerson said a customer survey carried our earlier this year found a cinema was the most requested leisure experience by visitors to Cabot Circus.

Toby Tait, director of asset management at Hammerson, said: “Cabot Circus is proud of its record providing Bristol with a leading cinema which acts as a key draw to both our destination and the wider city centre.

"This new partnership with Odeon is the culmination of months of hard work to select the best operator and bring the latest technology and experience into a completely renewed cinema venue.

“It adds to our growing line-up of restaurants and entertainment venues, specifically introduced to boost day and night experiences at Cabot Circus in the heart of Bristol.”

The news follows a number of new openings planned for Cabot Circus, including King Pins Bowl and Treetop Golf in place of Jungle Rumble, which BristolWorld revealed was closing back in March this year.

BristolWorld also broke the news back in July about Marks & Spencer’s plans to open a new store in the shopping centre, marking its return to Bristol city centre.
