Bristol restaurant launches new Indian brunch menu

A restaurant in central Bristol is launching a new brunch menu that draws inspiration from across India.

Haveli The Yard on Upper Maudlin Street, just opposite the BRI, is a family-run restaurant from restaurateur Amir Farooq and it draws on the legacy of his grandparents who owned long-running Bristol restaurant The Rajpoot.

Since it opened in 2021, Haveli The Yard has built a strong reputation for its high quality cooking and is now launching a unique and Indian-style brunch and lunch menu.

As with Haveli’s extensive evening menu, the new brunch and lunch menu draws inspiration from all across India, showcasing the best regional dishes and introducing some classic Indian brunch dishes.

These include egg dosa, a signature dosa filled with lightly spiced Indian scrambled eggs and the vada sambur, a popular South Asian donut-shaped lentil fritter, served with coconut chutney and tomato chutney.

Speaking about the new menu, owner Amir said: “Being British-born, I often forgot about my culture, but when my family and I moved to South Asia when I was a teenager I totally fell back in love with everything from the food and drink to the amazing atmosphere of family-run, local restaurants, and this became the inspiration for Haveli.

“As well as showcasing some of the classic dishes that our customers might be familiar with, we wanted to introduce people to some of the more unusual regional dishes that they might not have discovered before, including some of the dishes we’ve really fallen in love with from our travels and from the heritage of our team.

“We also wanted to create a menu which was easy and convenient for those working in the local area, especially the NHS workers at the BRI across the road from the restaurant, who can enjoy great food with their NHS discount.”
