A popular Bristol restaurant is reopening after nearly a year of being closed after the pandemic.

Bosco Pizzeria in Regent Street, Clifton Village, last served meals in August 2021, although its sibling restaurant on Whiteladies Road has remained open.

The business known for its wood-fired pizzas and rustic modern Italian cooking has also opened branches in Bath and Cheltenham.

Owner Miles Johnson says it has always been his intention to reopen the Regent Street site but there have been many factors for the delay, most notably the staffing crisis affecting the hospitality industry.

The final designs for the remodelling of the Clifton Village restaurant are being completed and work will begin very soon with a view to opening before the end of 2022.

Miles said: “It’s really exciting to gear up for re-opening after nearly a year of being closed. We made the decision to keep Clifton shut while we launched our new site in Cheltenham.

“Unfortunately, since then we have been hamstrung by severe staff shortages in Bath, which have taken up all of our resources and not allowed us to focus on reopening Clifton.

“I’m not entirely sure how operators can continue to juggle the industry-wide staff shortage but it’s a complicated picture and something has to be done in order to avoid inevitable closures.”

Miles also provided Bristol World with an update on his next venture, a small Italian restaurant called Pizzucci.

Located on Gloucester Road, the opening for Pizzucci has now been delayed but he says it will be open ‘within the first few months of 2023’.
