The Clifton opened in July and has been praised for its cooking

A Bristol pub that reopened under award-winning new owners only five months ago is a new entry in the prestigious Michelin guide.

The Clifton in Clifton Village opened its doors in July after a refurbishment from the Wales-based team behind The Heathcock in Cardiff and the Hare & Hounds in Aberthin.

Prior to opening businesses in Wales, co-owner Tom Watts-Jones worked as a chef in London at Michelin-starred St John and the Anchor & Hope.

Tom and wife Sarah had been looking for a Bristol site for over a year and wanted The Clifton to feature a similar menu and style as their two acclaimed Welsh restaurants.

Five months since opening the doors of The Clifton, the pub/restaurant has been listed as a new entry in the Michelin online guide.

The guide praises the Bristol site for its ‘unpretentious, locally inspired cooking’.

It goes on to say: “The menu includes both small plates and larger sharing options – like braised short rib or Cull Yaw shepherd’s pie – which are generous in both size and flavour.

Well-priced wines and local ales are on hand for extra refreshment, and midweek sees a particularly good value lunch menu.”
