A survey of UK cities has revealed that Bristol is the most popular place in the country for roast dinners.

For this research, Idealo analysed the Google reviews and star ratings of eateries that serve roast dinners in some of the most populated UK cities.

They compared venues with a star rating of 4.5 and above — not including the eateries with a low volume of reviews — and narrowed the list down further by excluding cities without a clear roast speciality.

After finding the highest-rated restaurant with roast dinners currently on their menu, Idealo compared the pricing and the options available for roast dinners.

Idealo also compared the Instagram analytics of the most recent posts featuring a roast dinner on the profiles of all eateries from our research (if the profiles existed).

These findings revealed Bristol had the most popular roast with a 4.9 rating — the highest in the research — for the city’s favourite Sunday dinner venue, Caper and Cure on Stokes Croft.

Bristol had the second most Sunday dinner venues, with 135. Caper and Cure also has the third-most affordable roast, with an average price of £16 from its range.

Birmingham, Newcastle and Nottingham followed in joint second place for the most popular roasts, with the highest-rated eateries in each city all scoring 4.8 out of 5. The research also found the UK average cost for a roast dinner is £15.42.

Katy Phillips, Senior Brand and Communications Manager at Idealo, said: “The most important aspect of a roast is, of course, the taste, but everyone looks for something a bit different.

“Choice is abundant across the UK, so we wanted to help find the best spots in the biggest cities for those on a roast hunt or just wanting to try their best local Sunday lunch — whether your priority is affordability, luxury, tradition or modern flavours.”
