An Amazon spokesperson said the city is “known for romantic hotspots like Clifton Observatory, as well as the friendly phrase Alright my luvver.”

The study, which is based on both print books and eBooks bought in 2023, put Edinburgh in second place.

Northern Irish and Welsh capital cities, Belfast and Cardiff, also appeared on the list, notably above London, which ranked twelfth.
