Bristol hotel rooms are to see an increase of up to £48.75 per night during the Cheltenham Festival. The festival takes place between March 12 and 15 and is the biggest week on the UK racing calendar. As many as 288,000 fans will be travelling to Cheltenham during the week, over double Cheltenham's population, so many will be looking for accommodation outside the town. Many racegoers stay in Bristol during the event and take the train to Cheltenham.

Online betting firm The Winners Enclosure calculated the average cost of a night stay at the most central Premier Inn and Travelodge Hotel in Bristol during the week via Google Hotels. They compare the average cost of a night stay at each hotel during March 12 and 15 with the average of March 19 and 22. The study showed a stay at Premier Inn has risen to an average of £142.50 from £107 per night and from £117 to £179 at Travelodge.

In the town of Cheltenham itself, the average one night stay at a hotel was found to have risen by as much as £40.75. However, this figure is slightly skewed by the fact that the majority of Cheltenham’s hotels have already long sold out.
