A Bristol funeral parlour is opening its doors this winter to host a new weekly knitting group.

Co-op Funeralcare Redfield says it wants to provide a space for the community to come together for a chat and the opportunity to potentially benefit some local causes at the same time.

The group, based out of the home on Church Road, will be open to all and will take place every Wednesday, with refreshments also provided.

Guests can help knit items to donate to local causes, bring their own knitting or simply pop along for a chat and a warm drink.

Tracey Young, funeral director at Co-op Funeralcare Redfield, said: “Whilst this time of year is a happy occasion for many, we also know it can be a time when people may be feeling lonely and looking for some company.

“On top of this, with the current increased cost of living, winter can be an especially difficult time for many financially, with the colder weather adding an unnecessary strain onto people’s budgets.

“That’s why at Co-op Funeralcare we wanted to offer a warm space for people to come together for a cup of tea and a chat this winter. And by incorporating this into a knitting group, we have the added bonus of being able to benefit some really great local causes with the results of everybody’s hard work!”

The group will take place every Wednesday between 11am and 1pm, at Co-op Funeralcare Redfield on Church Road, beginning December 6.

There are no requirements to bring anything, however people are welcome to bring along their own knitting and donations of wool.
