Bristol Food Hygiene Ratings: Food Standards Agency releases first batch of ratings for 2023

The first batch of food hygiene ratings for restaurants and takeaways across Bristol in 2023 have been released today (January 4).

The Food Standards Agency published the results after 17 diners underwent inspection during November and December of 2022. Bristol City Council carries out the inspections and then sends the scores to the Food Standards Agency to publish. The ratings cover the handling of food, how the food is stored, how it is prepared, the cleanliness of the facilities and how food safety is managed. The score does not necessarily reflect the quality of the food served by the diners.

A star rating system ranks the best restaurants at five stars, working its way down to the worst rating available, zero stars. Five stars mean ‘very good’, four-star is ‘good’, three-star is ‘generally satisfactory’, two stars is ‘improvement necessary’, one star is ‘major improvement necessary’ and zero tar is ‘urgent improvement necessary’.
