‘A big loss to the community’ - Long-running Bristol fireworks display faces cancellation in 2025 🎆

The organisers of a popular fireworks display in Bristol have warned it may not continue in future years.

Knowle Cricket Club held this year’s ‘spectacular show’ at its grounds on Wells Road in Knowle on November 3.

But the club said it is ‘very disappointed by the huge numbers of visitors choosing not to pay at the gate, standing outside our grounds to watch’.

In a statement on social media, the club’s management wrote: “We are an amateur sports club, reliant on volunteers, working hard to support the local community providing sporting opportunities to a wide cross section of people from all backgrounds.

“The fireworks display is a huge effort for us both financially and in terms of the volunteer effort. It is an important fundraiser in helping the club to be viable throughout the year.

“Given the lack of financial support the display received this year, we are seriously considering whether to continue in future years which we believe would be a big loss to the community.”

The club is now encouraging those who were in the crowd outside watching for free to make a donation online.

This year’s tickets cost £7 for adults, £4 for children and £20 for families of four.

Reacting to the statement, one commenter wrote: “People are always going to stand outside and watch it for free if they can. To be fair, last year was better than this year, just my opinion.”

Another added: “I understand the amount it costs to put these displays on, but have you considered the price? A lot of firework displays are less than the amount you’re charging, so naturally, people go with a cheaper option, or if they can watch for free, they will also do that first.”

A third simply said: “Same every year, more trouble than it’s worth.”
