Bristol fire: Lloyds office in Canons Way cordoned off as firefighters tackle Harbourside blaze

Firefighters continue to battle a fire at an office block in Harbourside hours after the blaze broke out.

The Lloyd’s Bank office on Canon’s Way was cordoned off this morning due to the fire, which started in a basement electrical switchroom.

A plume of black smoke billowed into nearby streets with businesses nearby asked to close their windows and residents urged to avoid the area.

Bedminster Fire Station has since provided an update on the incident. A spokesperson said:”Firefighting operations still ongoing as we speak.

“Approx 30 breathing apparatus were committed with basement for firefighting and ventilation.”

There are no casualties although dozens of people had to be evacuated from the building.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said: “We’re currently responding to a fire on Canons Way in Bristol city centre.

“Please avoid as the area as our crews work, and be assured that we are on the scene.”

TFirefighters are using hose reel, jets and extinguishers to deal with the blaze.

Travelwest said that Canons Way has been closed at the junction with Anchor Road (A4) due to the fire.

The firm tweeted: “If driving, please avoid area until incident is over as there are limited alternatives routes for access.”
