Eyes to the skies, Bristol!
The city’s annual Balloon Fiesta is back after a two year hiatus due to the pandemic.
And this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever with four jam-packed days at the Ashton Court Estate August 11 - 14.
This includes three mass ascents which sees more than 100 colourful balloons fly together over Bristol.
The festivities can’t get underway without a practice run though, and this morning (Monday, August 1) saw the launch of the pre-festival flights over the city.
The balloons launched at around 6am from Vassells Park in Fishponds and Pomphrey Hill in Emerson’s Green.

5. Fiesta’s return
The flights are taking place ahead of the Fiesta’s return to the Ashton Court Estate from Thursday, August 11 to Sunday, August 14.
6. Eyes to the skies
The iconic annual festival sees the grounds of Ashton Court packed with family activities, traders, public bars and street food, all positioned around a huge launch field.
7. Nightglow
As night falls on the Thursday, over 20 hot air balloons will also gather for the nightglow, lighting up in time to the specially created soundtrack from BBC Radio Bristol.
8. Mass ascent
The second day of the Fiesta will see its first mass ascent, with more than 100 hot air balloons gathering from all over the world to inflate and then fly together over Bristol.
