A Bristol business has been named among the 13 best artisan bakeries in the UK.

Farro, on Brunswick Square in St Paul’s, has come in fifth place on the Bakers’ Dozen list by British Baker.

The publication brought together more than 100 specialists from across the sector to vote for their favourite artisan bakery.

Farro is new to the Bakers’ Dozens for 2024 and also the only bakery representing the South West on the list.

British Baker said of Farro: “With a small team behind it, the ‘growing and ambitious’ bakery specialises in viennoiserie and sourdough.

“The head baker and team actively seek new ways to incorporate freshly milled, local grains into its seasonal offering.

“As such, the menu is diverse and changeable with croissants, kouign-amann, and babka among the items to grace its counter.”

The Bakers’ Dozen list was topped by Lovingly Artisan in Cumbria, with Bread Source in Norfolk coming second and Dusty Knuckle in London third.

British Baker says an artisan bakery is where baked goods are "made by skilled bakers by hand, often utilising longer and more traditional processes”.

Farro started its baking journey in 2015, solely selling at markets before moving to Brunswick Square in 2019.

The team starts baking at midnight on Saturdays, using fresh-milled, locally grown flour for their breads.

Last year, Farro was also picked among the best bakeries in the UK by The Times and the Financial Times.
