Bristol Animal Rescue Centre are hoping to find foster parents or forever homes for the loving dogs in their care. The centre has been supporting Bristol’s furry creatures since 1887 and, due to the cost of living crisis, has reported that more and more pups are being handed over as owners can no longer afford to care for them.
From puppies to older dogs, they have tons of canine companions, hoping to bring a little extra joy to your life. Here are 10 we have selected, to see more visit www.bristolarc.org.uk/
1. Butterbean
Butterbean is a cuddly, affectionate dog who has a lot of love to give. She is very playful and friendly, but may take a bit of time to warm up to strangers. Sadly, Butterbean's ears have been illegally cropped by her previous owners. Adopters will need to understand the stigma that may come with this, and should be willing to educate others about the cruelty of this practice. Butterbean has struggled to make friends with other dogs since being at Bristol ARC, apart from Pintobean who is another bull breed with cropped ears. Butterbean is more than happy to be rehomed with her friend if adopters are able to accommodate two lovable gal pals. Butterbean is worried about going for walks on her own, but she manages to walk much better when she goes out with Pintobean. Butterbean may look like an imposing dog, but she is as soft as they come and hopes to find a relatively calm home, where someone can be around most of the time.
2. Bridie
Bridie is an active young bulldog who unfortunately comes from rocky beginnings. She is playful with toys, loves her food and enjoys training. Bridie has even been dabbling in agility training and is a big fan. She has been friendly with all the people she has met during her stay at Bristol A.R.C, but she isn't a fan of other dogs. Although she walks nicely on the lead, adopters will need to be aware of the limitations she faces due to her breed, especially in hot weather. She is looking for a home where she can learn to relax, be adored by her new family and finally live the life she deserves.
3. Hector
Hector is a sweet, sensitive soul who can struggle with new experiences/ environments. It takes a while for him to relax in new situations which means he can become quite upset, and even vocal or defensive at times. Hector struggles when seeing other dogs and would prefer to be exercised away from other dogs, so he can work on his behaviour around them and actually enjoy his walks. Hector also has a very high prey drive and will need to wear a muzzle for the safety of any surrounding wildlife. Hector loves doing his muzzle training, and would need to continue this practice in between his walks to maintain a positive relationship with his muzzle. He is very playful, and his favourite toys are bouncy balls that he can chase and soft toys that he can rip to shreds. Hector is a lovely boy and needs a supportive home where he feels secure and loved.
4. Sadie
Sadie is a beautiful German Shepherd with a warm, friendly disposition. Sadly, she did not have the best start in life and as a consequence will require a female only home. After being brought into Bristol A.R.C via the RSPCA, she is searching for a home where she can relax and enjoy having lots of company. Sadie is very affectionate, enjoys playtime and her walks. She is currently building up her muscle strength on walks, so she only goes out for short walks a few times a week. Adopters would need to be understanding of this, and continue this system after she has been adopted.
