The top-ranked primary school in Bristol was Elmlea Junior School, in Westbury-on-Trym. The school also achieved the highest score in the South West.
Executive headteacher Lorraine Wright wrote in a newsletter to parents: “Once again we are delighted Elmlea has featured in the Sunday Times School Guide 2022.
“We all know that the school provision Elmlea offers to your children continues to be outstanding for many, many other reasons than this specific measure.

“A big thank you to you our families and staff team, together we have achieved this.”
Primary school rankings are based on the average SATs exam results achieved by schools over the three years between 2017 and 2019.
Children are expected to score 100 in reading, grammar and maths.

Hide AdParent Power editor, Alastair McCall, said: “We felt it was important to go back to the last sets of moderated public examination outcomes from 2019, 2018 and 2017 to get the most accurate and current view of school academic achievement.
“By taking a three-year average, we mitigated against relatively poor performance in a one-off year.”
He added: “At a time when some schools are making hard to substantiate claims of academic prowess based on outcomes from 2021 and 2020, we believe these rankings – and all the additional information on offer in Parent Power – provide parents with a more reliable guide to academic achievement in schools today.”
The second highest-ranked school in Bristol was St Teresa’s Primary School in Monks Park.
And the third best-achieving school was St Bonaventure’s Primary School in Bishopston.
