RSPCA branches across the country take in cats and dogs from the public, RSPCA Inspectors, the Police and Dog Wardens in a bid to give them the support and home they deserve. Bath Cats and Dogs Home are hoping to find foster parents or forever homes for several loving dogs under its care. The home has taken care of furry creatures for 95 years after being founded in 1937 and, due to the cost of living crisis, expects more and more pups to be handed over as owners can no longer afford to care for them.
1. Leicester
Leicester is a sweetheart who loves human company. He is affectionate and will nudge into you for a fuss. He enjoys learning new tricks and will do lots for a tasty treat - he already knows sit and paw. The home knows that he is house trained, loves the sofa, enjoys his walks and generally walks nicely on a lead. Leicester has Cushings Disease and Arthritis which is currently managed with medication - the home will continue to support the cost of this in a new home. Contact the rehoming team for more information on this. Leicester is currently learning to cope with being by himself as he has previously struggled with separation anxiety. Any time alone would need to be built up very gradually although he has initially done well with this in his current foster home. Leicester likes other dogs and is keen to say hello. He can be a little boisterous with his greetings which can sometimes be too much for some dogs, but he'd benefit from making some friends out on his walks.
2. Duke
Duke may be small in size, but staff at the cats and dogs home have described his big personality. His favourite pastime is playing with his selection of soft toys and he can be quite chatty during playtime too. Duke is affectionate once he gets to know you and loves being around people. He may become your little shadow - this does mean he may struggle a little when left alone. Duke was a stray, so it is not known if he has lived in a home before. He will benefit from having regular access to a secure garden to help with his house training progress. He can be unsure when meeting other dogs, he would benefit from walks in quieter areas at first, to help build his confidence.
3. Roxanne
Roxanne is looking for owners with plenty of time to give - she will need someone around all day as she doesn't cope well when left alone. She enjoys playtime and loves training - already knowing how to sit, give both paws and wait – a very clever girl. Roxanne would make a great addition to an experienced dog-loving home. She can be weary of new people and will need a quiet, understanding home with owners that will let her grow in confidence at her own pace. She will need her own secure garden as she is worried by other dogs and any walks should be kept to quieter areas to minimise her stress.
4. Smeagol
Smeagol is a sweet but sensitive boy. Once comfortable with you, he loves attention and will hop onto your lap for a cuddle. He can be hesitant of strangers and would benefit from an experienced owner that can read dog body language well to spot when he is feeling uncomfortable. He will need his own secure garden for off lead exercise. Smeagol is worried about being handled by those he doesn't yet trust. He does not wear a harness when on walks for this reason but is slowly learning that they are not so scary. Any time alone should be built up gradually for Smeagol as the cats and dogs home team are not sure if he's had a home before. Smeagol tolerates the company of other dogs but would benefit from working on his social skills in his new home once settled.
