An award-winning Bristol fish and chip shop as famous for its vegan dishes as its cod and chips has closed its doors suddenly.

Catch 22 on College Green opened in 2015 and quickly gained a city-wide reputation for the quality of its fish and chips to takeaway or eat in the ground-floor restaurant. It went on to create a vegan range of fish and chips alternatives including ‘The Vish’ made from banana blossom marinated in samphire, seaweed and lemon.

Opposite College Green and Bristol Cathedral, Catch 22 was a popular spot for theatregoers visiting the Hippodrome around the corner.

But the restaurant and takeaway has closed suddenly without warning. Its front windows are now boarded up and when Bristol World visited, there were rough sleepers in the doorway of the building.

The premises have already been listed by Burston Cook property agents for a rent of £31,000 per annum, with an undisclosed premium sought for the opportunity to purchase the lease, fixtures, fittings and equipment.
