Ten of the best towns in and around Bristol have been picked as part of an online guide to determine the top places to live in the UK.
Lifestyle website, Muddy Stilettos has compiled its annual list of the top places to call home in each region with some delightful spots on the outskirts of Bristol, in both Somerset and Gloucestershire, included. A winner has also been chosen from each each county area.
The suburbs, villages, towns and cities that made the cut within a short distance of Bristol were chosen for different reasons - either for their best restaurants and pubs, stunning green spaces, cool independent shops, brilliant farmers’ markets or must-see attractions. The online guide uses insider knowledge of places outside of London to help potential buyers and renters decide where they’d like to live.
Below are the top five places for both Somerset and Gloucestershire according to Muddy Stilettos along with the reasons given by the publication.

1. Frome - Winner for Somerset
Frome is the toast of Somerset according to Muddy Stilettos. It boasts a rich heritage because of its wool and clothmaking, but these days it draws a cool crowd because of its restaurants, bars and artisan shops on cobbled Catherine Hill. | Helen Hotson - stock.adobe.com

2. Wells - #2 for Somerset
Wells was ranked second in the best places to live in Somerset. It is south of the Mendips and England’s smallest cathedral city, although movie buffs will know it as the setting for several films including Hot Fuzz. | Valerie2000 - stock.adobe.com

3. Somerton - #3 for Somerset
Muddy Stilettos describes Somerton by saying “The small town has a bit of a European vibe with an historic market square, wide, tree-lined streets, old stone houses and a clutch of indy shops.” | Sue Tucker

4. Langport - #4 for Somerset
Muddy Stilettos describes Langport as “thriving laid back indies and a spirit to match on the edge of the Somerset Levels (and with the possible return of the railway it could be a good time to buy).” | Sue Tucker
