Thankfully, Bristol is blessed with plenty of places where you can relax with a pint and let somebody else cook your roast Sunday lunch.
And with the weather still unpredictable, you may even find yourself grabbing a table next to a warming real fire until it’s warm enough to eat in the beer garden.
Below is a round-up of 10 of the best roasts you’ll find in Bristol pubs.
And if you think we’ve missed out your favourite place, do get in touch so we can add it to our list.
1. The Sunday roast at Duck and Willow in Downend
2. The Volunteer Tavern, New Street, St Jude’s
Known to regulars as The Volly, this tucked away pub near Cabot Circus has a huge range of local beers but it also serves some of the best Sunday roasts in the city. And at £12 for the beef, chicken, butternut squash nut roast or vegan cheese and mushroom tart, they’re excellent value too. The roasts come with roast potatoes, mashed swede, braised red cabbage, steamed kale, sweet potato wedge, carrots and Yorkshire puddings.
3. The Albion, Boyces Avenue, Clifton Village
Built in the late 1760s, this Grade II-listed former coaching inn is still one of the best places for Sunday roasts in the city. Choose between roast sirloin of beef, thyme and garlic chicken supreme, roast pork loin, slow-braised lamb shank and a classic nut roast. If you still have room for dessert, the sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream is hard to beat.
4. The Spotted Cow, North Street, Bedminster
Bedminster favourite The Spotted Cow has one of the best beer gardens south of the river so if the weather’s on your side, enjoy a pre-lunch pint on the lawn before heading inside for the traditional Sunday lunch with roast potatoes, squash puree, braised red cabbage, seasonal vegetables and rich gravy. Meat choices include Hereford Cross beef sirloin, Somerset pork loin and Frampton salt marsh lamb, with mushroom and Stilton wellington with red onion marmalade for vegetarians.
