Muddy Stilettos, an online lifestyle magazine, has featured Bristol and Somerset as part of its Best 260 Places to Live Series.
From the Bristol suburb of Southville to the village of South Petherton, the series has found that there are 10 desirable places in Bristol and Somerset that are a cut above the rest.
Here are the 10 places in Bristol and Somerset that feature in the Muddy Stilettos series:
1. Hinton St George
Gorgeous golden hamstone houses, a stonking foodie pub, well-stocked village shop with post office, village hall, village primary school, church – er, that’s it – surrounded by beautiful orchards, woodlands and farmland; this is sleepy, unspoiled Somerset at its best.
2. South Petherton
This golden hamstone village, five miles east of Ilminster, five miles north of Crewkerne in rural south Somerset, may be small but it’s got pretty much everything you need to live the good life – including indie shops and cafes, one of Somerset’s best farm shops and a Michelin-listed restaurant – and it’s just off the A303, so very handy for jaunts down to Cornwall.
3. Bruton
Low key but cool Bruton, aka the Notting Hill of the South West, has more than its fair share of cultural highlights, great food and famous people.
4. Widcombe, Bath
Located immediately south of the city centre, where the Kennet & Avon canal meets the river Avon, Widcombe combines a friendly ‘villagey’ feel – The Parade’s indie shops, pubs and cafés, a thriving community hub, flower shows, allotments, Christmas market, infant and junior schools, its own magazine – with everything the World Heritage City of Bath has to offer, just a couple of minutes’ walk across Ha’penny Bridge.
