The Commonwealth Games is almost upon us - a huge sporting event which brings nations and some of the greatest athletes together in celebration of sport.

A global spectacle which comes around every four years since it began in 1930, the games currently attract 4,600 sports men and women, representing 72 nations and territories.

Who is Claudia Fragapane?

Claudia Fragapane is a name that is well renowned for being a record-breaking athlete at the Commonwealth Games.

The 24-year-old gymnast became the first Englishwoman to ever claim four gold medals at one Commonwealth Games event at the young age of 16 in 2014 - she started competing in gymnastics at just six years old.

As well as Commonwealth triumphs, the Bristol-born sportstar has also claimed two world bronze and three European silver medals.

Ms Fragapane previously attended St Bernadette Catholic Secondary School, located in Whitchurch in Bristol.

Claudia is also a representative of Easton-based Bristol Hawks Gymnastics Club.

Is she scheduled to compete at Commonwealth Games 2022?

Claudia Fragapane has been announced in the Team England lineup for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022.

Ondine Achampong, Georgia-Mae Fenton, Alice Kinsella and Kelly Simm will be alongside the Bristol gymnast.

Showbiz and television fans not too familiar with athletic sport might be more familiar with Claudia Fragapane through dance competition Strictly Come Dancing.

Fragapane competed in the 2016 series partnered with AJ Pritchard, becoming the second youngest ever celebrity to participate.

Showing that she is a jack of all trades, the Bristol-born athlete went as far as the semi-final and finished in fourth place.
