Bonfire Night: We visit an animal shelter near Bristol to find out about the impacts of fireworks
Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary is a fairly small cat and dog sanctuary which opened in 1992 just outside of Bristol.
During firework season, the shelter has more staff on site and volunteers to help the animals stay calm.

Hide AdAnimal Care Supervisor Poppy shared the following tips to help pets calm down at home during firework season:
- Make a safe space that they feel comfortable in.
- Use calming supplements/sprays
- Play calming music like Classic FM to block out the noise of the fireworks
- Sit with them to help them relax
- Provide natural chews to help distract the dog and help them to relive some of the stress.
