Honi Poke: We visit Bristol's newest 'healthy-eating' takeaway and won't be going back

The London-based poke bowl favourite specialises in nourishing poke bowls, sushi boxes, ‘pokerittos’ and bubble tea.
Their goal is to "boost wellbeing by bringing sunshine, food love and full-on pacific Hawaiian flavours to customers in a way that is convenient, healthy and delightfully delicious."

A few kiosks ordering machines were displayed across a wood backdrop near the entrance, and the wooden drinks and snacks display was next to it.
Pop music played not too loudly from the speakers, and not a lot of people were eating in (although more people started coming in later on).
Since the venue had only opened recently, the ‘pokerittos’ and bubble tea were unfortunately unavailable until a future date. Food also had to be ordered from the kiosks.

Hide AdAfter failing to order from the first machine, which struggled to load the menu, I ordered my meal on the second attempt.
I decided to opt for the Korean BBQ Vegan "Pulled Pork" which came with jackfruit, BBQ sauce, chilli spring onions, edamame beans, pickled cucumber, fresh pineapple, steamed broccoli and sesame seeds for £11.82 with mango as an extra topping for 50p.
There was an option to pick between brown rice, white rice, vegetable slaw or a mix as a base. I chose the brown rice and veg mix.
I also ordered a miso soup and a passionfruit lemonade for an extra £2.50 each. The order was completed within around 5 minutes.

Hide AdThe soup was very hot and came with spring onions and seaweed. The base was not too salty, and the seaweed was chewy.
As for the poke bowl, it came with a lot of rice, which was slightly chewy. The chilli were very spicy, so I scooped them out. The edamame was soft and slightly chewy and the jackfruit was slightly sweet with a tingling spice.
The broccoli was slightly crunchy, the spring onion was crispy, and the cucumber was soft and juicy with crunchy edges.

Hide AdThe biggest highlight of the dish was the fruit. The mango and pineapple pieces were very soft, sweet and refreshingly juicy.
Overall, the service was very fast, and the dish was relatively filling. It offers a healthier alternative to takeout on a night out in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit Honi Poke.
The food wasn’t bad but it didn’t particularly stand out aside from the fruit. I feel there are some better options in the area, so Honi Poke wouldn’t be my first choice.
