Located in Tickenham, near Clevedon, Carriages at Garden Park is unlike any café I've visited.
The wooden door entrance is quite easy to miss in the colourful garden centre.
The main café area has a welcoming cottage-core vibe with stone walls and a cosy seating area with a bookshelf and a fireplace.
Carriages was bustling with life during our visit during lunch. The café was particularly popular with retirees and families with young children.
Next to the door, the special menus were neatly written on black chalkboards.
The breakfast menus were named after platforms, a nod to Carriages best feature: guests can eat in unique 1950s railway carriages.
Given the choice of seating areas, I didn't miss a beat and chose the carriage.
It was like stepping into a whole new world.
A beautiful wooden-panelled room led into the cosy train carriage, each table adorned with a white tablecloth and a vintage beige and golden lamp. I kept having to remind myself I was in a static café and not a train.
Outside the window, the area next to the carriage had been transformed into the 'Clevedon train station' and was complete with a bricked-pattern floor and a vintage lamp post. There was also additional seating outside.
I decided to order a Biscoff milkshake with oat milk before browsing the food menu.
Carriages menu featured many 'pub dishes' including Hand Battered Cod Fillets (£13.50), Homemade Beef Lasagne (£12.50) and Scampi (£12.50), as well as, Jacket Potatoes (£6.50), sandwiches and toasties.
I opted for the Pork Steak with garden peas, gravy, garlic and rosemary potatoes (£12.50) and a Brie & Cranberry toastie (£6.95) to share with my partner.
The milkshake was creamy, smooth and not overly dense. It was not overly milky or watered down by the milk and instead had a lovely, sweet, strong Biscoff taste. It was difficult not to finish it off as we waited for our meal.
The pork steak was really soft and ever-so-chewy. It was not dry but I felt it could have used more seasoning.
It paired well with the thick gravy, which was not overpowering in flavour, and the sweet chutney sauce.
The potatoes were soft and had a slightly sweet aftertaste.
As for the toastie, the soft bread, creamy cheese and sweet sauce blended in perfect harmony.
Overall, it was very pleasant experience and I didn't want to leave. The staff was very friendly.
Unfortunately, there were long waits when ordering and the meal took at least 40 minutes to arrive, so it's not the best place to have lunch if you're on a tight schedule.
However, if you are looking for an escape from city life and a relaxing moment of peace - or are a train enthusiast - Carriages at Garden Park is a must-visit. And it’s only a half-hour bus ride from Bristol City Centre!
