The company that owns a pub in Bristol has issued an update about its future amid the departure of its landlords.

The Shakespeare, on Henry Street in Totterdown, has been run by Klara Gelleta-Campbell and Euan Campbell for almost seven years.

But they are due to depart the pub at the end of this week, citing rising costs and a “lack of support” from its owners, Stonegate.

Now the pub company has told BristolWorld a new landlord will reopen the pub next month, following a temporary closure.

A Stonegate spokesperson for the Shakespeare said: “We were unable to reach an agreement with the publican at The Shakespeare and as a result an exit date has been agreed.

“A great new publican has been identified, with fantastic plans for the pub and a sustainable business plan.

“We are obviously disappointed we were not able to come to an agreement, but our new publican has ambitious plans for the pub, and we are confident it will remain very much at the heart of the local community when it reopens on September 9, 2024.”
