A ‘much-loved and iconic’ bar in South Bristol which closed last month is set to reopen as a new venue.

The Old Bookshop, on North Street in Bedminster, is becoming LUPE after undergoing a major refurbishment.

It comes after the venue was acquired by Emily Penney and Mike Fenlon, who also own Alpha Bottle Shop & Tap on East Street.

In a social media post on The Old Bookshop’s old account, LUPE wrote: “We’re pleased to announce that our new name and brand is here.

“For all you who’ve brushed up on your Latin, you’ll know: Humulus lupulus = Hop; Lupus = Wolf … and the name LUPE was born.

“Watch this space, more updates to come!”

The Old Bookshop, which opened in 2011, closed on September 14, with mid-October given as the initial opening date for the new venue.
