Bristol clubbers from the golden age of “clubland” will be in for a flash of nostalgia this year, with the announcement that Basshunter will be performing in the city.

Part of a whirlwind tour of nightclubs during freshers week, the performances may see those of a certain age dusting off their rave whistles, looking for glow sticks and hammering their old Ministry of Sound CDs ahead of his Bristol show.

Basshunter was born in Halmstad, Sweden on December 24 1984 and began producing music at the age of 17. The musician took his name from what he felt defined his music style and, in his own words, was a name that was commercial and powerful.

He had some chart success in his homeland with his second album, LOL, seeing four singles enter the top 40 on the Swedish Sverigetopplistan (record chart) but it was his third album, Now You’re Gone - The Album, which led to an explosion of popularity in the UK.

The lead single/earworm Now You’re Gone topped the UK Singles Chart in 2007 and was certified platinum by the British Phonographic Industry, with the third single from the album, All I Ever Wanted, also hitting the top spo that year.

All I Ever Wanted re-entered the top 100 UK singles in 2010 after Basshunter was announced as one of the housemates on Celebrity Big Brother 7. He ended up placing fourth on the show, behind Vinnie Jones, Dane Bowers and eventual winner Alex Reid.

A noted videogamer, Basshunter finished second place in a Swedish StarCraft tournament and played Counter-Strike at semi-professional level with his team winning two tournaments in his homeland.
