The Bristol neighbourhoods with the highest Covid infection rates as Omicron cases in city soar

All but one of the eight neighbourhoods saw a significant jump in infections

The eight Bristol areas with the highest Covid infection rates have been revealed as cases of the Omicron variant grow in the city.

The Government today (Friday, December 17) released data showing cases of Omicron at local level, with 119 confirmed in Bristol, although this could be much higher as the figures only run until the latest period available which is December 15.

Omicron is thought to be more transmissable than previous variants, sparking Christmas party cancellations which are proving another devastating blow to the city’s hotels, restaurants and pubs.

People have also been scrambling to get their booster jabs in a bid to save their Christmas plans.

These are the eight neighbourhoods that curently hold the highest infection rates in Bristol - all above the national average, which at the time of writing stands at 556.1 cases per 100,000 people.

Heanleaze

Henleaze currently holds the highest infection rate in Bristol at 792.0 per 100,000 of the population.

This was recorded in the week leading to December 9 and is a 46.9 per cent increase from the week before, when the infection rate stood at 539.3.

Lockleaze

Lockleaze currently holds the second infection rate in Bristol at 719.4 per 100,000 of the population.

This was recorded in the week leading to December 9 and is a 27.9 per cent increase from the week before, when the infection rate stood at 562.5.

Horfield

Horfield has an infection rate of 682.9 per 100,000 of the population, the third highest in Bristol.

This was recorded in the week leading to December 9 and is a 27.5 per cent increase from the week before, when the infection rate stood at 535.6.

Whitchurch Park

Whitchurch Park has an infection rate of 668.7 per 100,000 of the population.

Although this is the fourth highest rate in Bristol, the area has recently seen a decline in cases.

The infection rate the week before was recorded as 951.1, a decrease of 29.7 per cent.

Stockwood

Stockwood holds an infection rate of 650.7 per 10,000 of the population, currently the fifth highest rate in Bristol.

Cases jumped by 50 per cent from the week before, when the infection rate stood at 433.8.

Bishopston

Bishopston currently holds an infection rate of 638.0 per 100,00 of the population.

This was a 65.3 per cent increase on the week before, when the infection rate stood at 386.

Knowle West

Knowle West currently holds an infection rate of 630.4 per 100,00 of the population.

This was a 80.8 per cent increase on the week before, when the infection rate stood at 348.7.

Lower Easton

Lower Easton currently holds an infection rate of 589.8 per 100,00 of the population.

This was a 73.3 per cent increase on the week before, when the infection rate stood at 340.3.
