There are plenty of spots around Bristol to ‘grab a jab’ over the next few days as the drive to offer everyone a booster dose before January 1 continues.

Just before Christmas Anne Morris, chief nurse of the region’s vaccination programme, told BristolWorld there had been a lapse in demand for booster jabs before Christmas, despite efforts to ramp up capacity.

She urged residents not to put off their booster until the New Year if they are eligible, adding: “The third dose really does offer so much protection”.

She also reassured people coming forward for their first jab: “It’s never too late. Some people are keen, some people take time to decide.

“There will be no judgement on our part, we’re just delighted to see you come forward.”

Vaccinations resumed on December 27 and there are plenty of walk-in clinics open over the next few days offering first, second and booster jabs.

Who is eligible for a Covid-19 booster jab?

You can get a booster dose if you had a 2nd dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at least 3 months ago and:

  • you are aged 16 or over with a health condition that puts you at high risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19
  • you are a frontline health or social care worker
  • you live or work in a care home
  • you are aged 16 or over and are a main carer for someone at high risk from COVID-19
  • you are aged 16 or over and live with someone who has a weakened immune system (such as someone who has HIV, has had a transplant or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis)
