We have spent more than 90 minutes waiting in a queue to book a time and place in Bristol or nearby for when and where we can receive our booster Covid-19 vaccine.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Sunday evening his plan to offer every adult in England the opportunity to receive.

The roll-out of Covid-19 booster vaccination scheme is coming under serious pressure throughout the United Kingdom.

We are eligible to book an appointment as we meet the criteria as set out by the government - we live in Bristol, we are more than 30 years old and we received our second Covid-19 jab more than 61 days ago.

Despite repeated attempts to book a booster jab slot today, we have been unsuccessful.

This is the message we received when we tried to book a slot in Bristol this morning.

“You are in a queue,” reads the message.

“Lots of people are trying to book an appointment at the moment.

“We will tell you where you are in the queue and your estimated wait time shortly.”

The message on nhs.uk goes on to offer advice to people on what they should do when they eventually access the booking service.

“You will be asked for your NHS number - this is a 10 digit number you can find on any letter the NHS has sent you. For example, 485 777 3546

“If you do not know your NHS number you can still book your vaccination appointments.

“Try to answer the questions as quickly as you can, or you may go back into the queue.”

People who have also tried and failed to book an appointment expressed their frustration on social media.

Some people said they were told to try again later and others claimed they were advised to try again on Tuesday.

The rush in the number of people trying to book a Covid-19 booster slot is a direct result of Boris Johnson’s pre-recorded addressing of the nation on Sunday.

Prime Minister Johnson said the threat of the new Omicron variant was such a concern that he wanted to offer all adults in England the chance to receive a Covid-19 booster jab or, for the unvaccinated, the opportunity to receive their first injection, before the end of December - a full month earlier than originally set-out last week.
