Revved up! Bristol care home hosts high-speed fundraiser for dementia research

A care home in Bristol shifted into gear to host a Formula 1-themed event in support of a dementia charity.

Care UK’s Ladden View, on Fletcher Road, welcomed the local community to take part in its very own ‘Garden Grand Prix’ event, raising £110 for Race Against Dementia.

The garden was transformed for the day, complete with racing flags and prestige cars from Williams Automobiles, which residents were taken for a spin in.

80-year-old resident, Chris Riggs, said: “This is one of the best experiences of my life. I was lucky enough to have a test drive in one of the cars from Williams Automobiles, and it was fantastic. I have never been a passenger of a car like that before, it was great. I was taken on a drive around Yate, and I had to hold onto my hat, it was a very fast car!”

This event was one of a series that saw Care UK care homes across the country participating in racing-themed events to raise money for Race Against Dementia – a charity founded by F1 legend Sir Jackie Stewart following his wife Helen’s diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia.

The charity raises funds for research into the prevention and treatment of dementia, with the money collected at these events going directly to supporting the organisation’s efforts.

Sarah Daly, Home Manager at Ladden View, said: “We’re incredibly proud of everyone who joined us for the fundraiser. We are truly grateful to those who donated and helped us raise money for a wonderful cause.

“As a care home, we’re committed to supporting people living with dementia and their families. Too little is known about the condition, which is why we’re thrilled our event contributed to supporting vital research.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to the team for transforming the garden and to everyone who attended. Everyone’s effort and enthusiasm made the day a success.”

Ladden View is a new, state-of the-art care home providing full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the home has its very own cinema, hair salon and café, along with plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
