Areas in South West most exposed to rising housing costs revealed

As housing costs have continued to increase since 2022 amid rising inflation and higher interest rates, Mobile Annexe LTD. analysed new ONS data to find the places most affected across England.
Each area was assigned an exposure score, relative to other local authorities, based on “the estimated proportion of households affected by rising costs” and “the increase in costs as a proportion of estimated disposable income for the average household.”

Hide AdBath and North East Somerset, and Bristol, had the highest private rent exposure score at 7, followed by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole with 6. Exeter came third with 5. Forest of Dean, Stroud, and Tewkesbury had the lowest at 2.
When compared to the rest of England, the South West scored 3 – the fourth highest in England.
Further analysis revealed North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Stroud, Swindon, Tewkesbury, and Wiltshire had the highest mortgage exposure score at 5, followed by Bath and North East Somerset, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, Bristol, Cheltenham, and South Hams with 4.
Cotswold, Dorset, East Devon, Exeter, Forest of Dean, Gloucester, Mendip, Mid Devon, Sedgemoor, South Somerset, Teignbridge, Torridge, and West Devon came third with 3.

Hide AdCornwall, North Devon, Plymouth, Somerset West and Taunton, and Torbay had the lowest at 2.
When compared to the rest of England, the South West scored 3 – the third highest in England.
