Two kebab shops on a busy Bristol road have been given 1-star food hygiene ratings.

M&M Kebab and Pizza and Mr Doner, at 63 and 183 Whiteladies Road respectively, were hit with the poor score during recent inspections.

Zero stars means that urgent improvements are necessary, while one star means inspectors think major improvements are needed.

M&M Kebab and Pizza has two other outlets in the Bristol city centre and Avonmouth, both of which received five-star hygiene ratings earlier this year.

But its Whiteladies Road outlet was given a 1-star rating after inspectors visited the business in November.

They found that hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities and building were found to need ‘improvement’ by officers, while management of food safety needed ‘major improvement’.

A spokesperson for M&M Kebab and Pizza said: “We recently had a five-star rating and have asked someone from the Council to come and check again as we do not agree with the 1-star rating.

“We have done all the work that has been asked of us.”

While hygienic food handing was found to be ‘generally satisfactory’ at Mr Doner, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building needed ‘improvement’ and management of food safety needed ‘major improvement’.

BristolWorld has contacted Mr Doner for comment.
