Sustainable Business of the Year announced

Marking its 40th year as a beacon of eco-conscious living, EarthSpirit has proven that sustainability is more than just an idea, it’s a way of life. Co-founded by David Taylor, former principal speaker with the Green Party, the Somerset-based healing retreat follows sustainable ecological principles in both its design and its day to day running.

The independent judging panel at 365 Awards, comprised of business experts and previous award winners, praised EarthSpirit’s unwavering commitment to green initiatives, community impact, and environmental excellence. EarthSpirit was one of the first UK businesses to install an eco pellet-powered boiler system more than a decade ago. Essentially it heats the whole centre and spa from burning compressed saw mill dust and tiny off-cuts of wood rather than gas or electricity. They feed the solar energy from their three arrays back to the grid for others to use (rather than store it in chemical batteries).

The retreat's architecture features grass-topped roofs to encourage wildlife. They offer staff a subsidised natural health scheme making planet and body-friendly treatments more affordable such as reiki, hypnotherapy, nutritional analysis and herbal based remedies. In April 2025, EarthSpirit are installing 6 new electric car charging points and introducing a subsidised electric charging scheme for staff.

And speaking of green initiatives – they’ve recently added new outdoor compost toilets as part of their ever-growing commitment to reducing waste and embracing the circular economy.
