5. Marcruss Stores, 177-181 Hotwell Road, Hotwells
Family-run Marcruss Stores has been a Hotwell Road landmark for more than 60 years, selling camping/ski wear, workwear and wet weather clothing/boots, as well as army surplus and Airsoft guns and accessories. Sadly, it will be closing down this summer. | Google

6. Doug Hillard Sports, 647 Fishponds Road, Fishponds
Bristol Rovers legend Doug Hillard originally opened his sports shop on Stapleton Road in 1967, but he relocated it to Fishponds Road in 1978. These days, it’s run by Doug’s son, Gary. | Google

This independent toy business has been run by Paul Carpenter since 1988. Before that, it was a shop called Toys Plus. | Google

8. Henleaze Garden Shop, 146-148 Henleaze Road, Henleaze
Into its 79th year, Henleaze Garden Shop is one of Bristol’s longest-running family businesses. The shop was opened by John Stenner and his wife, Vera, shortly after the Second World War and their son, Robert, took over the business in 1981. | Google
