A new bargain food shop in Bristol has confirmed it is still going ahead after questions were raised over its future.

Bargain Brand Foods, which will sell short-dated, just past best before, and long-dated branded food and soft drinks, has informed BristolWorld it is planning to open next month.

“We’re on the case, we’ve signed the lease, and we’re hoping to open in the middle of February," owner Darren Ward told us.

“They’re just finishing off the work, and then they’ll hand over the keys. I went up there on Saturday, and they’re not far away.”

The 11,000 sq ft unit is due to open at the Printworks on Foundry Lane in Speedwell, with repair work currently being carried out.

Originally based in Avonmouth for a month, the store spent last year looking for a new site and was hoping to finally open at the new location in time for Christmas.

But at the start of December, the opening was delayed to the New Year due to the building works taking longer than anticipated.

The store promised more updates in the New Year, but its Facebook page has since been taken down, leaving people to question whether it was still going ahead.

But owner Darren, who runs other stores in places including Birmingham and Plymouth, said the page was frustratingly taken down by Facebook, with plans for the opening unaffected.
