The inspection found that two assessed areas, hygienic food handling and cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, were found to be ‘generally satisfactory’, while ‘major improvement’ was necessary when it came to management of food safety.

The cafe is often busy and popular with tourists with thanks to its location, which offers some of the best views over the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the Avon Gorge.

Jade Rockett, general manager at Clifton Observatory, made a move to reassure customers that the issues raised by inspectors had ‘already been addressed and rectified’.

“The key concerns raised were the facilities available in the kitchen and log management,” Ms Rockett added.

“At the time of visit we were in the process of redesigning our kitchen which has since been completed.

“The café is also under new management, with all members of the team being trained in record management.

“We have requested a visit to review our rating and are confident that it will be reviewed to a 5 within the next few weeks.”
