Bristol eyecare clinic is one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Women 2025
Sight-saving clinic Newmedica Bristol is celebrating after the company was named one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Women 2025 by Great Place To Work®.
This accolade recognises Newmedica’s commitment to championing gender equality, supporting women’s career development, and fostering a truly inclusive work environment.
Among the many talented women working at Newmedica Bristol is Lucy Hooper, Acting Clinical Services Manager at the eye-health clinic and surgical centre.
She joined Newmedica Bristol three years ago, having worked in retail for 15 years. She began at Newmedica Bristol as an Ophthalmic Assistant, before progressing into management of the clinic

As part of her role, she oversees the daily operations of the clinic, ensuring the staff are trained to deliver a first-class patient experience treating all patients with dignity, respect and compassion, putting the patient and their family at ease while ensuring the clinics run smoothly and efficiently.
Lucy said: “I really love working at Newmedica Bristol. I feel recognised, appreciated, supported and listened to on a daily basis, so I’m really pleased to hear about this award because it is so well deserved.
“As someone who thrives on being happy at work and working with a group of people who feel more like family than colleagues, Newmedica encompasses all of this.
“In addition, I have the ability to change what doesn’t work, continue to build on what does, and approach the senior leadership team and directors with any ideas I have.
“I feel very fortunate to be able to have such a good relationship with all levels of management since starting as an Ophthalmic Assistant – one that has only built further since progressing into management myself, so I couldn't ask for anything more
“Progression is encouraged here, if that's what you want to do. With that comes copious amounts of support from everyone in the business, team members are recognised for their hard work, and there are often rewards and presentations on our team-building and training days to congratulate those who have been promoted or gone above and beyond for their peers and our patients.
“There's not much you could give me that would tempt me to leave Newmedica – I have everything I could want right here.”
Lucy has been promoted four times in the three years she has been with Newmedica Bristol. Among the career development opportunities Newmedica has given Lucy since joining in 2022, she has been enrolled in and completed the Newmedica ‘Clinical in-service trainer and assessor’ course.
This enables her to train and sign off her team in clinic, ensuring the team are fully capable of using the diagnostic machines and able to create accurate reports that are then used by the clinicians when discussing treatments or making surgical plans with patients.
Newmedica Bristol is owned and run by consultant ophthalmologists Mr Johannes Keller, Mr George Kiousis, Mr William Sheehan and Mr Stuart Guthrie, as well as operational director Julian Phillips.
This recognition as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Women follows Newmedica’s wider success, having also been named among the Top 50 UK’s Best Workplaces™ 2025 and UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Development earlier this year.
Joel Seith, Head of Business at Newmedica Bristol, said: “We are so proud of Lucy and our team as a whole. Getting recognition as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ for Women is testament to the inclusive, empowering culture we strive for every day, and Lucy’s journey is one of many at our clinic that we’re delighted about.”
Newmedica Bristol provides a range of eyecare treatment, including cataracts and glaucoma. The clinic offers private treatment and services on behalf of the NHS, helping to reduce waiting times and improve patient outcomes.
