Next Everton manager: Former Bristol City defender favourite to replace Frank Lampard

Everton are expected to part company with first-team manager Frank Lampard after a poor run of form left them joint-botton of the Premier League.

The Toffees lost to West Ham United in a relegation six-pointer last Saturday and it was a result that was spoken about that could have a baring on whether Lampard remained in his post at Goodsion Park. Jarrod Bowen scored twice in the first-half to relieve the pressure on David Moyes and increase it on Lampard.

As a result of their defeat in the capital, Sky Sports reports that the Toffees are expected to sack the Chelsea legend, and multiple reports are saying that the news could break today. One Sky Sports reporter said: "The expectation is that at some point today Frank Lampard will be leaving his post as Everton manager."

The Merseyside-club will now search for their second manager in 12 months after Lampard was appointed on Deadline Day last year after replacing former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez. Numerous candidates have been linked with a job but given Lampard has remained in his post for most of January, it has only been speculation.

A former Bristol City defender however has emerged as the man that could potentially succeed Lampard once the job becomes available. Sean Dyche is the firm favourite for the role as he waits for his next job after being sacked by Burnley last April. Dyche has spent half-the-season out of management and has been biding his time for his next opportunity.

Dyche had been a contender for the role in 2017 but Everton decided to go with Dutch national team boss Ronald Koeman. Daily Mail journalist Dominic King believes that Dyche has not been approached for the job, and is not high on their list of candidates.

He was at Bristol City for two-years of his playing career, and made 17 appearances in total for the Robins. The 51-year-old joined in 1997 and helped them win promotion to Division One in his first season, but was loaned out to Luton Town during his two-year spell. He later ended up playing for Millwall, Watford and Northampton Town, before going in to management with the Hornets in 2011, and then moving to Turf Moor a year later.
